Also, my incoming port is set to be forwarder in the router to the RPI2 and it is open. I have set encryption enabled for incoming and outcoming connections, DHT, and all the other options enabled in that screen (the checkboxes). So, since I didn't see any benefit from it, I set it to the default 200 connections. Didn't make a difference on the download speed but the RPi2's CPU was working harder as I was increasing the connections number, which is expected. I have also tried to increase the number of connections from the default 200 to 300, 500 and unlimited. I have tried other, popular torrents as well with thousands of seeders and a few leachers with the same results. I understand that torrenting takes up a lot of CPU cycles, but the max I see is 1MB/sec download (and then drops to 500kb/sec), when for the same torrent, my mac pegs my internet line max on 7.2MB/sec download. They are a lot slower that my Mac or Windows laptop.

Why did such an old version got installed? I used the default Rasbian repos with the standard sudo apt-get install deluge deluged deluge-web-ui deluge-terminal.Īnother question is the download speeds. However, their website indicates that the current, most recent release is 1.3.11.

Now, the version that is installed is Deluge 1.3.3 which seems to be old, from 2011 !! This version does not support adding magnet links from within the Web-GUI, something that was fixed on release 1.3.4. You can add torrents from within the terminal screen over SSH. I ended up doing a chgrp and mkdir without sudo. The use of sudo mkdir was the issue of not giving my user "pi" the right permissions. The only issue I had was with permissions on my USB HD where Deluge was pointing to, but I fixed it. I followed this guide, which is very well documented and well-written. The outcome was that their functionality is similar but Deluge has some more functions and it is more lightweight on the RPI2 CPU.

I did some some research on which torrent software i should use Deluge vs Transmission. I guess it is cheap enough that i don't care, but anyway. I could use my large 64GB SD card for it but I guess the constant read/write of the download process is going to reduce the life of it. So, the project last night was to install a torrent server and connect a USB HD to save the downloaded content. I have had a RPi B model since it came out.
